To support new distance learning initiatives SCPS Distance Learning has adopted a new platform for the delivery of online courses. The platform, NYU SCPS Online is based upon the Epsilen™ environment with Horizon™ Wimba’s embedded synchronous capabilities. The NYU SCPS Online platform provides SCPS with tremendous opportunity to develop student-centered approaches to education with social networking capabilities, portfolio building, and a robust set of tools to support online learning needs.  Moreover, sophisticated collaboration tools facilitate group communication and provide faculty and students with the ability to create collaborative documents using Wiki’s and Blogs. The affordances of such technologies in teaching and learning are profound and enable SCPS to position itself with cutting-edge technologies to support effective pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning. The system will be released on August 4, 2008.
